Fran Herr wins the Dean’s Medal!

The WXML congratulates Fran Herr on winning the 2022 UW College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s medal. Fran took part in the WXML starting in the Fall of 2019. She was part of the project Matching Graphs. This project was led by faculty mentor Bennet Goeckner and graduate student mentor Rowan Rowlands. The undergraduate students involved were Fran and Legrand Jones II. This project resulted in two publications,
Iterated matching graphs
and
A characterization of two-dimensional Buchsbaum matching complexes

Fran is a double major in mathematics and dance and she loved exploring the connections between the two fields. After graduation she is moving to New York City to work at the National Museum of Mathematics. In the fall of 2023 she plans to begin a Ph.D. in Mathematics where she will study topology, geometry, and/or combinatorics.

Congratulations Fran!
